Rupa came in #2 to be an MTV VJ..She is such a light I cannot imagine who came in over her….She is a writer for Lost..and just such an amazing girl…You have to fall in love with her immediately….Kurt an investment banker..and such a smart guy to marry Rupa….What a beauty inside and out…..

So I was hosting this Halloween party at a pretty hip club in NYC. (Back when I was actually cool and almost an MTV VJ.:)) I had told a co-worker of mine about this party and he quickly suggested that I invite his daughter’s good friend.  See, I didn’t believe in set-ups at the time but I  trusted my co-worker so I invited Kurt and his friend to the party.

I remember sitting at a table with a few college friends in my princess costume. (Is there ANY surprise that I was dressed as a princess?) Then, I remember seeing this cute guy walk inside wearing, wait for it…a tooth fairy costume.  Wings, tights, tutu, and a large fake arm tattoo (which i later found was his way to stil show face.) Anyway, I finally discovered that this BRAVE individual was Kurt. We talked for a couple of minutes and I just remember how cool and down to earth he was.  He called me the next day and asked me out.  Two cities, two grad schools, and two dogs later, I think it’s time to make him my official best friend in life.

1. Girls – get a mani and  pedi….This is my # 1 thing to do for any shoot…Your hands and your ring is important and there is nothing that ruins a shoot more than no mani and pedi!!

2. Bring at least two outfits, maybe one casual and one more formal and dressy. I do love it when people really think about this session and maybe go beyond the call of duty and get something really exciting for this shoot. The photographers go to a lot of trouble to get the angles and the right place to shoot and thinking alot about this so the more homework and thought that you put into it the more we work it too and the photos will see the results….

3. Girls borrow things if u have too…..to make it great!!! Especially great shoes!! Bringing some props that are special to you des not hurt either….

4. When choosing the clothes try not to make them to contrasty. I mean when one of you is wearing white and the other black it makes a bit of a problem to keep all those colors in tact because they are so far aprt….So choose colors that are more similar…..

5. Try to pick a place that is really cool to shoot..If you do not know one or have that very special place then ask the photographer to pick it…..Chances are that they will have a place they have been dying to shoot at….!!!

6. The last one today but by no means the last thing to do is to get professional makeup done for the shoot. There is nothing worse than taking fab pics and having the makeup not up to the shoot. I am a big believer in makeup for the girl….and a little dusting for the man…..I mean why should she get to do something special and he doesn’t….It does not seem fair!!..LOL..I usually suggest that the day they do the engagement shoot that might be a great time to test out a makeup artist and have her do the makeup close to how she might do it on the wedding day..I love the old tow birds with one stone rule….

We had the opportunity to do an engagement shoot with Laura and Arthur  in preparation for their upcoming marriage in August. Their wedding is going to take place at Disney Hall Downtown Los Angeles. That is of course one of those places in LA that is magical to shoot at and to have a wedding there is pure joy. They wanted to shoot  their Engagement shoot at  the Los angeles County Museum of Art – LACMA. We met them there and spent about half an hour scouting locations to come up with the best shots. They were quite comfortable with each other which made our work a lot easier.  It was a beautiful sunny Friday afternoon in Los Angeles and a Jazz band was playing some cool jazz in the courtyard which set the mood for some of these shots. After the shoot we actually had some dinner and watched the jazz band and then shot some more. It was really relaxed and fun to get to know this great couple more.
