Way back when I got my first 35 mm camera, it was A Nikon F film camera,  one of my dreams was to get an image on the pages of Nikon World…The quarterly publication produced by Nikon USA and available by subscription.

Well in the current issue of Nikon World magazine,  Cherie and I have 10 images…we are so excited…

NIKON WORLD was one of many photographic  publications that we sent our images to across the USA and Canada. and we currently  also have an ad Advertorial  with Nikon USA which is in the new issue of RANGEFINDER magazine.

Everyday we are so excited to do what we do at Cheriefoto because we are relentless in our pursuit of making compelling and award
winning images… so we are always coming up with new ideas and finding new ways to execute them, so we rent gear
that we don’t have, to try out to help keep us tuned at the top of our game.

We know that marketing may be the most important part of our business but Cherie and I are big on technique so we experiment a lot with different lights and lenses to add to our basic kit which consist of Nikon D3, D700 and D7000 bodies and a stack of Nikon speed lights….On these bodies we can fit just about every Nikon lens ever made, we have the basic Nikon zooms but lately we have been shooting with all the new fast prime lenses that Nikon has been releasing : 24mm f1.4,  35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.4, 85mm 1.4,  even though we have several zooms that cover that range.

These fast lenses along with the Nikon D3, D3S and D700 can shoot in extreme low light at ISO 6400 and get exceptional results with very little noise with the images we capture….  and I find myself shooting at ISO 1600 regularly, like the way we used to shoot Tri-X film, except with much better control over the exposure.

These tools are helping us push the boundaries of photography and helps us to create images that were never before possible….thank you Nikon!

Colin Cowie, David Tutera and Preston Bailey always of course have the most amazing things to say about the ultimate in wedding planning..…I picked a few very cool ideas from them to pass along to my Bride’s……Enjoy, be happy and have fun planning…That is what it is all about……..

1. Use images of yourself and your groom on your save-the-date notice. Whether printed or emails, a personalized save-the-date won’t be forgotten.

2. Instead of a place card at each place setting, have a menu printed that’s personalized with the guest’s name on top.

3. Instead of traditional table numbers, personalize each table by naming it something that’s relevant to you, e.g., your favorite cities in the world, names of streets you lived on, schools you attended, favorite authors, or favorite wines.

4. For a summer wedding at an outdoor ceremony, provide the ladies with fans that are personalized with the name and date of the bride and groom.

5. Let the celebration begin—and there’s no better way to make it special than by offering a series of signature cocktails named after each of the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

6. When it comes time to hit the dance floor, have a gobo made with the bride and groom’s initials projected onto the dance floor.

7. Have a slideshow made with images of wedding. Set up a screen or computer monitor for the show to be seen at the day-after brunch.

8. Have a CD made with images of your wedding available for your friends to take home as party favors at the end of the night.

9. Make a CD with the music played at your wedding: from ceremony to reception and party. Give the CD to your valet parkers and have them place one in each car, or place a pile of CDs on a table where guests depart for them to help themselves and take one home.

10. Instead of a traditional sign in book, have your guests write a message on a ribbon that is then tied to the ceremony area. The ribbon can be collected after the ceremony and saved as a memento for years to come.

What a fun and edgy event……The Bridal Bar and Angeleno Magazine hosted an amazing Masquerade Ball at the Petit Ermitage Hotel in West Hollywood, CA.  The event was expertly designed by Cobalt Events , the extravagant ball had an all star team of industry vendors including Tic Tock Couture Florals,  Classic Party Rentals, Beautiful Day Photography, Custom Candy Buffet Bars, Plush Puffs,  Supernova String Quartet, and Madame Chocolat. The highlight of the night without a doubt was a performance by the Aqualillies, a 50’s inspired water ballet group. I just love dancing in the water….Guests were invited to have their face painted by an authentic french Masquerade make-up artist and have their photos taken with a group of lovely Masquerade Models  wearing sexy lingerie  with their gorgeous hair and makeup by Fiore Beauty. Lots of movers and shakers from the wedding photography world were there….and even I got a pic of myself…..My absolute favs were of the Aqualillies….The photos were taken by the charming Laura Greer…..So enjoy….
